Ahhh… SpaceRats. The product of creative frustration and way too much coffee in one day!
Actually, I’m doing it a great disservice with those words. Frustrated at both Children of Earth and Hijacked with how they seemed so ‘haphazard’ after I’d done an inordinate amount of reading into the art of story structure, and completely at a loss over how to redeem them, I set about crafting a new storyline with three new characters – much younger protagonists than I had chosen to write before.
Initially set within the confines of a small spaceport, the three set off on an adventure across numerous locations throughout the colonised Solar System, but then the story began to mutate and they, somehow, ended up living on an independent space station situated on the very edge of the Inner Worlds influence, at the innermost edge of the asteroid belt.
SpaceRats is most definitely a work-in-progress, but I can reveal that the direction the story is taking has me quite intrigued at the moment and I, for one, can’t wait to see how it turns out. I just hope the writer pulls his finger out and… oh, that would be me… 😉
